The difficulties come from several problems, such as the students do not know the parts of the sentence, do not recognize the tense of the sentence, or they are still confused how to apply the form that changes the active sentences into the passive sentences. To help the students with those problems, arranging integrated steps that show them how to change the active voice into the passive ones are considered to be a good idea. The integrated steps in this case are started by dividing the parts of the sentence that helps the students to know which subject, predicate and the object of that sentence. Then the students will place the object of the sentence as the subject of the passive sentence. The next step, the student must decide the verb be of the passive sentence by referring the tense of the active sentence and whether the subject of the passive sentence is plural or singular. After that, students change the verb in active sentence into past participle and use it as the verb for passive voice. Then the students can extend the sentence if it is necessary to show the actor in passive sentence by using word ‘by’. Finally, if the sentence is extended, the students use the subject of the active sentence as the object in passive voice. By using the integrated steps is hoped that the students will understand how to change active sentence into the passive ones efficiently.
Firmansyah Diyata Copyright (c) 2024 Firmansyah Diyata (Author) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-06-29 2024-06-29 14 1 11 21 10.56413/studi ilmiah sastra.v14i1.474 THE INTERRACIAL RELATIONSHIPS AMONG WOMEN IN THE HELP BY KATHRYN STOCKETT http://45.118.112.109/ojspasim/index.php/sastra/article/view/471
This journal analyzes the complexities and challenges of interracial relationships among women in Kathryn Stockett's "The Help," offering profound insights into the intricate dynamics of societal norms and racial dynamics in 1960s America. The novel intricately portrays the dynamics of friendships, alliances, and conflicts that arise between black maids and their white employers, illuminating the complex intersections of race, class, and gender. Through these relationships, the narrative highlights the potential for empathy, understanding, and solidarity across racial lines, challenging the barriers imposed by segregation and discrimination. Despite the resilience displayed by the characters, the novel underscores the enduring effects of racial injustice. Through its exploration of themes such as identity, empathy, and resilience in "The Help", this journal offers a nuanced portrayal of the human experience amidst the backdrop of racial tensions and also show support among women with racial differences. The result of this analysis aims to demonstrate that skin color and social class do not impede solidarity among women. Skeeter, a white woman, endeavors to protect and advocate for black maids, asserting that they are all equals and should not face discrimination.
Cindy Zahra Devita Copyright (c) 2024 Cindy Zahra Devita (Author) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-06-27 2024-06-27 14 1 22 32 10.56413/studi ilmiah sastra.v14i1.471 PENERAPAN GAMIFIKASI DALAM PEMBELAJARAN NIHONJIJO DI UNIVERSITAS NASIONAL PASIM http://45.118.112.109/ojspasim/index.php/sastra/article/view/486
This study examines the application of gamification in Nihonjijo (knowledge of Japanese culture and society) learning at PASIM National University, particularly for Generation Z students. Despite the increasing global interest in Japanese culture and language, Generation Z exhibits learning characteristics that diverge from traditional educational frameworks. This research employs an in-depth interview method to identify the specific obstacles faced by students in learning Nihonjijo using conventional methods. The main findings indicate that conventional methods, characterized by rote memorization of vocabulary and kanji characters and grammar-focused instruction, fail to engage this generation, which prefers interactive, technology-based, and contextual learning experiences. The application of gamification in Nihonjijo learning is found to enhance student engagement and motivation by integrating game elements such as points, challenges, and rewards. Additionally, the rapid evolution of digital media and its impact on attention spans and learning preferences are explored. This study concludes that to teach Japanese effectively to Generation Z, particularly in Nihonjijo learning, educators must integrate innovative strategies that align with their digital fluency and need for practical application. Recommendations for curriculum development include further incorporation of gamification, multimedia resources, and more interactive learning practices to create a more immersive and engaging learning environment. This study contributes to the broader discourse on educational reform and highlights the need for adaptive teaching methods in the context of cultural and language studies.
Miranti Artarina Copyright (c) 2024 miranti.artarina (Author) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-06-28 2024-06-28 14 1 33 42 10.56413/studi ilmiah sastra.v14i1.486 TUTURAN IMPLIKATUR YANG MEMILIKI MAKNA SINDIRAN IRONI BAHASA JEPANG http://45.118.112.109/ojspasim/index.php/sastra/article/view/487
Penelitian ini membahas mengenai tuturan implikatur yang memiliki makna sindiran, khususnya yang bermakna sindiran ironi. Politeness in language is a crucial aspect of interpersonal communication, especially in high-context cultures like Japan, which emphasize courtesy and social norms. The analysis was conducted on three examples of utterances from the Japanese drama "Sunaoni Narenakute" by Eriko Kitagawa. Using a pragmatic approach, the study found that the particle "kana" functions to soften speech, obscure direct intentions, and express uncertainty, thereby reducing threats to the negative face of the interlocutor. Thus, "kana" serves as a negative politeness strategy, encompassing pessimism and hedging, as well as a positive politeness strategy through presupposition manipulation. These findings enhance the understanding of the role of sentence-ending particles in maintaining interpersonal harmony in Japanese communication.
Dewi Sakinah Copyright (c) 2024 Dewi Sakinah (Author) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-06-29 2024-06-29 14 1 61 69 10.56413/studi ilmiah sastra.v14i1.481 INVESTIGATING AI TOOLS USAGE IN ENGLISH FOR PRESENTATION: A STUDY OF STUDENTS AT TWO PRIVATE HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN BANDUNG http://45.118.112.109/ojspasim/index.php/sastra/article/view/477
The increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in education is transforming the methods through which students engage with English learning. This study seeks to explore the potential of AI in supporting university students' English language Learning. By examining current AI usage, the research aims to assess students' familiarity with AI tools and the extent to which they integrate these tools into their English learning practices. Participants in the study are enrolled in the mandatory online English III course, "English for Presentation," at two private higher educational institutions in Bandung, Indonesia, reflecting a range of English proficiency levels among them. Data collection involved administering questionnaires to participants at the end of the odd term in the academic year 2023-2024. The findings indicate that a significant majority of participants are aware of AI tools, with Google Translate emerging as the most frequently used tool for language learning assistance. However, the potential of other AI tools to assist English language learning for presentations has not been fully explored. Respondents are now more aware of how to use AI tools effectively: using precise prompts, verifying AI results, not relying solely on AI, continuing manual research, and understanding that AI can help with ideas and presentations but requires verification, moderation and ethical use of AI are essential. Instructors are recommended to provide guidance and facilitate the exploration of AI tools to effectively integrate them into students’ learning.
Arni Sukmiarni Lenny Kristianti Copyright (c) 2024 Arni Sukmiarni https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-06-28 2024-06-28 14 1 70 78 10.56413/studi ilmiah sastra.v14i1.477 TIPOLOGI MORFOLOGI AFIKSASI DALAM LIRIK LAGU BAHASA INGGRIS DAN BAHASA INDONESIA STUDI KOMPARASI LINGUISTIK http://45.118.112.109/ojspasim/index.php/sastra/article/view/479
Penelitian ini menganalisis bagaimana faktor budaya dan psikologis dapat mempengaruhi struktur bahasa dalam lirik lagu berbahasa Inggris dan Indonesia, dengan menggunakan teori linguistik Edward Sapir sebagai kerangka kerja.
